Daisy's Puppies at One Month














 

    Our puppies have gotten big. This is the fun part. Their individual personalities are starting to shine. They love to eat, wrestle, and explore. Eating puppy chow is their best trick. They can demolish a ton. And we are going through the newspapers to prove it. Their stomachs get so round and taut you would think they could burst. We both have our favorites, and I am glad they aren't the same: I might be tempted to keep one if they were. As it is, we spent a long time talking about how hard it will be to see them go.

Daisy's Puppies at One Week


 

 

Our puppies are getting chubby fast! They aren’t interested in doing much except eating and sleeping, and its paying off. Not much has changed developmentally.  They are getting around better, and making a variety of noises while they sleep. They also yawn all the time. It’s adorable.

  

The puppies took their first trip to the vet to get their dewclaws removed. They were ohhhed and ahhhed over, which I enjoyed, but I did not enjoy strangers trying to hold them. They aren’t people, but they are still newborn babies, and Daisy didn’t appreciate it.



 


Daisy is being a good mom. She cleans them thoroughly, and feeds them often. However, she takes every opportunity to get out of their pool, and likes even better to go outside and swim.

Answer Me This


I thought playing along with Kendra, of Catholic All Year would be a fun way to start the blog.


1.       How long have you lived in your current home?

4.5 years, with a few breaks. Hopefully, I can start knocking things off the to-do list soon. Our home looks pretty much like it did when we moved in.

 

2.       How do you find out about news and current events?

Mostly from this guy.

I used to listen to NPR everyday on my commute, and then surf the news sites (BBC, The Drudge Report, The Federalist, even occasionally Al Jazeera) sometimes during the workday. Now, I find out almost everything from hearing someone else talk about it.  It just doesn’t seem relevant to me anymore. Short of going to Kurdistan to fight ISIS there isn’t much I can do. Except pray. And I don’t need to be well informed to pray.

 

3.       Would you be able to make change for a twenty right now? For a dollar?

Yes.  It might be all in change, but I definitely have enough. Way more than enough.

 

4.       What's the craziest food you've ever eaten?

I’m not a picky eater, but I can’t think of anything  really out there. Sushi, alligator, MREs…there were some chocolate chip cookies with wax worms in them at the Audubon Insectarium in New Orleans that probably count as the craziest.

 

5.       Which of the commonly removed parts have you had removed? (tonsils, wisdom teeth, appendix, etc.)

     Just wisdom teeth. It was terrifying up until they gave me the valium. My mom had to come with me. She was a trooper for the wisdom teeth.
     Later I had to have a very complicated root canal, complete with stitches, and a bone graft. Also terrifying, also needed my mother, this time however she PASSED OUT as we were leaving. They had to call the ambulance and everything. I was loopy from the pain meds. She was mortified, I was worried, and the dentist brought it up every time I saw him for the next year. But everyone was really nice, and it all turned out to be no big deal, so now it's really funny.


6.       What's your favorite sport to watch on TV?
Because, how can you not  watch?
 

We aren’t huge sports fans, we don’t even have cable, but I love the FIFA World Cup. The stakes are high, and there is a ton of drama. My husband and I also enjoy heckling ridiculous Olympic Sports, to include the parade of nations and opening ceremony.

Daisy Had Her Puppies


     Our puppies arrived beginning at 11:30 p.m. on the 26th  and wrapping up at about 7:30 am on the 27th. It was a very long night. I went to bed at 10 p. m. and at 11:15 I felt a cold doggy nose on my forehead. Her water had broken and she knew she needed some help.

This is the first!



     She had ten, but we lost one, for a total of 9. Five boys and four girls. They seem healthy, and active. Daisy hasn't been the best mommy. Losing the one made her really anxious. She refused to get back in the box for almost two hours. Now, she is getting stir crazy. Laying around all day is not her thing, especially when there is a pool to swim in, and tennis balls to fetch.

They are tiny and wriggly, and hard to photograph. Expect a cuteness overload in the coming weeks.

Weekly Wrap Up for June 26th, 2015
 
Is it hot here or what? We've also gotten a lot of rain, so it's muggy too. All I want to do is curl up with a book, but it's so sunny it seems like I should be doing something more productive.

Reading: I finished My Antonia by Willa Cather today. I loved it. Kind of a grown up version of Little House on the Prairie, with a little more literary feel.

Creating:  I’m working on an afghan made from the Maybelle  Square Pattern found here.  I always forget what slow going these things are. And how many ends there are to weave in.

Growing: Jalapenos. And tomatoes. And Dahlias… I love this time of year.
 

 
 

 

Also, Daisy is still growing puppies. They should be here any second now. We have been thinking that for about a week. I wake up in the middle of the night, thinking I hear noises. Nothing yet. The  anticipation is killing me.
 

Cooking: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/bacon-wrapped-jalapeno-poppers/ I just made this recipe for bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers. Pretty good, but I scraped out all of the seeds and membranes, so they weren’t spicy enough. I have a hard time finding the right balance.

            When did we forget that our rights were endowed by our creator, and not the federal government? When did we forget the purpose of the government is to nurture and protect these rights? Why are we, as Americans, so afraid of acknowledging any kind of personal religious belief in public? Why isn’t the idea that the federal government is the highest power much more terrifying?
